Legends Volleyball Picked to Finish at Top of MCAC Division
Under new head coach Jason Smith, the ATCC Legends volleyball team aims to build on last year's 18-8 record and compete for the MCAC North Division title.
New Leadership, High Expectations
Coach Smith brings fresh energy and ambitious goals to the program. "We have high expectations entering the 2025 season. We are returning six key sophomores and added five strong freshmen, who I fully expect to contribute to our success this fall. Our expectation is to be in a position to win our conference. Obviously, our eyes are set on a postseason bid, but we fully understand that all teams are back at square one and all have similar goals. We simply want to improve each week to control our outcome all the way to November 15th. We are looking forward to an exciting 2025 season."
Smith is supported by a strong coaching staff including assistant coaches Reagan Joseph and Erica Smith, along with athletic directors Carly Erickson and Chato Alvarado.
Strong Foundation Returns
The team's success will be built on the experience of six returning sophomores, including standout players like Lilliana Rowe (DS/L) from St. Francis, Aspen Gentele (OPP) from Alexandria, and Maddy Stocker (S/OPP) from East Grand Forks. These veteran players, along with Ashlyn Kahler (MB/OPP) from Wahpeton, ND, Jaci Domeier (OH/MB) from Sleepy Eye, and Olivia Schmiesing (DS/L) from Melrose, bring valuable experience and leadership to the court.
Fresh Talent Joins the Mix
The Legends have also welcomed five talented freshmen to the roster, including local standout Eva Eisel (OH/DS) from Alexandria, Emma Madison (OH/DS) from Spicer, Alexis Nurmi (MB/OPP) from Maynard, Ella Demars (DS/L) from Monticello, and Brielle Bitzan (S) from Watkins. This blend of experience and fresh talent positions the team well for conference competition.
Conference Competition
ATCC competes in the MCAC North Division at the NJCAA Division III level. The conference features 16 teams across North and South divisions, all competing for postseason tournament berths. Based on preseason coaches' polls, both Minnesota West and ATCC are picked to finish at the top of their respective divisions.
Support Your Legends
Students, staff, and families are encouraged to come out and support the Legends volleyball team throughout the season. Home matches provide an excellent opportunity for our college community to come together and cheer on our student-athletes as they represent ATCC with pride.
